Beechnuts on Beech Tree

While walking I saw these nuts growing on a tree. I was curious to know what kind they were, if they were edible. By visiting Google, I was able to determine based on the photos and info that I found that they were beech nuts that grew on the American beech tree. They are supposed to be edible nuts and nutritious but bitter. I haven’t tried the nut from the pod that I picked yet. I don’t think it is ready yet.
